Gamescom 2017 Diary: Day 1

An early start for Generation Media as we caught the first flight from London to Cologne, Germany for Gamescom 2017.

    ..

There was a real buzz about the place on Tuesday as the sun shone and event geared up with a Trade Day. This was enhanced when we were treated to an appearance from German Chancellor Angela Merkel who officially opened the show.

   ..

With fewer consumers here today, it’s given us a chance to explore the whole of Koelnmesse and more excitingly, try out some upcoming releases on various developer stands. Highlights so far have included grudge matches between Jon and I at both EA’s FIFA18  and Konami PES2018 – all of which ended in draws: touché. Both titles look fantastic.

    ..

The new Sonic gave me a chance to revive my SEGA Master System prowess and eek out a victory. However Jon was by far the worthy victor when we raced one another on Namco Bandai’s thrilling Project Cars 2. Something tells me we won’t be asked back for live demos tomorrow though…

   ..

It’s also great to see the UK indie scene well represented: I’d recommend anyone visiting to pay a visit to the UKIE stand, where 82 British developers are based in one place.

   ..

On Wednesday the throngs of gamers will arrive en masse. We’re also looking forward to seeing an army of cosplayers invading the event – there have already been some great outfits on show. Look out for our next update and get in touch if you’re also here!
