GM Thought of the Week

Generation’s Silver Lining

Very exciting news from me this week…we recently achieved Silver Accreditation from the internationally recognised Investors in People, a level awarded only to the only top 5% of companies assessed across the world. This followed us achieving our third consecutive Continuous Professional Development Gold award from the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) in early 2016.

We enrolled for the Investors in People programme as we were confident that our training and development practices, were not just leading within the advertising space but stood up within the wider business market. The process that followed was rigorous, including companywide surveys and hour long staff interviews which lead to us not just receiving the standard award, but silver accreditation.

But why invest in these programmes of recognition, and why invest the levels of spend and time we do into our staff’s training and development?

We are the experts within this field, and ensuring that continues as we grow is essential to maintaining the client servicing levels for which we have become known. We boast a churn rate far below that of a standard agency and pride ourselves in our home grown talent, which is not only good for the business in terms of recruitment and time, but for building great and long term relationships with clients.

But don’t just take my word for it, not only is proof of return on such awards evident internally, but the IPA confirms that CPD Gold agencies typically have a 85% staff retention rate (vs. 70% from standard agencies), 94% client retention and save over £123k on recruitment fees.

To ensure the whole agency are committed, we have developed our programme to make it fun and engaging (such as building a training Instagram) – getting buy in and commitment from Director to Assistant level is critical in ensuring we continue to win such accolade’s. Investors in People noted the enthusiasm for the scheme, in the executive summary of the report, they said “there is a vibrant atmosphere at the agency, which reflects a dynamic culture of enthusiasm, productivity, and high ambition… [it] is clear that Learning and Development was high on the agency’s priorities… Generation Media is setting high standards in this regard.”

Finally, on a personal level, being heavily involved in our CPD initiatives over the last few years has led to my recent promotion to Associate Director, and I look forward to continue to lead and develop our training programme at this exciting time for the business.
